The lineage linkages between all the artifacts in a workspace, as well as all external dependencies, are visible in lineage view; it reveals connections between all workspace items, including connections to dataflows, both upstream and downstream.

View of the Data Lineage

Data Lineage can be examined in Power BI Service from a workspace. By default, all workspaces, both new and old, provided a Data Lineage view for their artifacts. The user must have at least the “Contributor” role assigned in order to see the data lineage in the workspace. Data Gateways 

The gateway information is added to the data source card if a data source is connected via an on-premises gateway. You can see more information, such as the gateway name if you have rights as a gateway administrator or a data source user.

Datasets and Dataflows 

The last refresh time for datasets and dataflows is displayed, as well as whether the dataset or dataflow is certified or promoted.

Inter-workspace relativity 

The data source card will indicate the name of the workspace in the details for a report created in one workspace using a dataset created in another workspace.

Using the Data Lineage View to Get Started

Except for ‘My Workspace,’ every workspace, new or old, has a lineage view by default.

Go to the workspace list view, tap the arrow next to List view, and pick Lineage view.

Conclusion

• To see the Data Lineage view, you’ll need a Power BI training in Riyadh Jeddah Makkah Madinah Khobar Saudi Arabia KSA Pro license.
• Only users with workspace access can see the Data Lineage view. Users in the workspace must have an admin, member, or contributor role; users with a viewer role are unable to move to the Data Lineage view.
